Imagine a class where every student feels valued, like a sports team where everyone has a place and successes are shared...

By adapting learning activities and assessments while maintaining high standards of achievement for each student, Audrey Groleau, a researcher at UQTR , has enabled each student to learn at their own pace and according to their own interests. This approach is called Universal Design for Learning.
Adopting the principles of Universal Design for Learning can mean offering multiple assignment submission options, including oral presentations, individual or team reflections, and collaborative projects. This flexibility allows students to showcase their skills.
This book chapter by Audrey Groleau highlights the importance of adopting innovative pedagogical practices to foster inclusive and effective learning environments. By combining the principles of Universal Design for Learning with the 10 educational strategies for Parité sciences, we can not only promote diverse backgrounds and encourage the active participation of female students, but also reduce gender stereotypes and promote their success.
