Parité sciences invites you to a new lunchtime conference broadcast live on its Facebook and LinkedIn pages as well as on its YouTube channel , on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at noon.
On this occasion, physicist Pauline Gagnon will address a subject as fascinating as it is little-known: the forgotten role of Mileva Marić, brilliant mathematician and physicist, and first wife of Albert Einstein, in the beginnings of the theory of relativity.
Intended for teachers and those working with elementary, secondary, and college students, this activity will highlight Mileva Marić's scientific contributions, as well as the intense intellectual collaboration she had with Albert Einstein at the turn of the 20th century. Pauline Gagnon will share with the audience how this woman helped shape some of the most influential ideas in modern science, without ever receiving official recognition.
It will also be an opportunity to discover the remarkable career of Pauline Gagnon, a woman of science who could inspire many others to follow their passion. A physicist by training, she worked at CERN, the world's largest particle physics laboratory, where she contributed to the discovery of the Higgs boson as part of the ATLAS detector team. She is also the author of the book What Does the Higgs Boson Eat in Winter and Other Essential Details (2015) . A committed communicator, she has campaigned for many years for more inclusive science and better recognition of women in a field that is still largely male-dominated.
A meeting not to be missed for all those interested in the behind-the-scenes work of science... and those who wrote it, often in the shadows.
